African Port & Inland Corridor Planning

West Africa
East Africa
Horn of Africa
Southern Africa

West African routing begins with the consignee and final customs territory—not a generic “Africa” freight lane. The Port of Cotonou documents corridor support for Niger and Burkina Faso, while the Port of Tema describes its Ghana and regional logistics role. The importer must confirm whether cargo is for local clearance, transit or re-export.

Cotonou, Benin
Benin discharge or documented inland transit
Importer confirms corridor and transit guarantee
Tema, Ghana
Ghana clearance or approved Sahel transit plan
Consignee and customs broker confirm documents
Lomé, Togo
Local or inland destination stated before quote
Carrier service verified for the shipment window
Dakar, Senegal
Senegal delivery or transit declared in RFQ
Product authorization checked by importer

The Northern Corridor authority identifies Mombasa as the maritime gateway linked with Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan. That does not make every route or document automatic: final destination, border points, transit agent and customs procedure belong in the buyer brief.

Mombasa, Kenya
Kenya clearance or Northern Corridor transit
Final country and border plan required
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Local or inland route selected by consignee
Current carrier and transit plan verified
Beira, Mozambique
Destination and inland leg stated in RFQ
Port, border and delivery costs quoted separately

For Djibouti, Berbera or another Horn route, the quote must name the recognized consignee destination, carrier service, transshipment, import authority and any inland transit leg. Humanitarian or institutional procurement is never inferred; tender terms control when applicable.

Djibouti
Discharge, final destination and inland leg declared
Importer confirms permit and customs procedure
Berbera
Carrier acceptance and destination naming verified
No procurement status inferred from the route

Southern African enquiries require the same country-level discipline. Durban, Maputo, Beira, Walvis Bay or Luanda are not interchangeable: the importer selects the customs territory, port, inland destination and required product approvals before freight comparison.

Durban, South Africa
South African clearance or documented onward plan
Food and plant-health requirements confirmed
Luanda, Angola
Angola-specific importer and permit brief
Portuguese document needs confirmed in writing

Africa Import Compliance

Importer and product authorization

The buyer identifies the importer of record and confirms product registration, import permit, licence, label language and shelf-life rules with the destination authority.

Inspection programme

Any pre-export verification, conformity assessment or destination inspection must name the current programme, agency, scope, booking party and certificate before loading.

Plant-health and treatment

The importer confirms import-permit conditions and phytosanitary wording. Fumigation or other treatment is used only when applicable and permitted, with method and evidence written into the contract.

Origin and shipping documents

The commercial invoice, packing list, transport document and any certificate of origin follow the transaction. Issuer, legalization and destination-specific documents are confirmed rather than assumed.

Tariff and tax check

The importer or customs broker verifies the current classification, customs value, duty, levy, tax and any concession for the exact product and origin before contracting.

Transit and delivery plan

For landlocked delivery, name the transit country, border posts, bond or guarantee, clearing agents, inland Incoterm point and allocation of delay, storage and demurrage risk.

Buyer Due Diligence

Verify the Shipment Plan

Before payment, match the importer, final destination, product classification, permit, approved sample, signed specification, inspection scope, document schedule and carrier routing. Use the export-document guide, loading checklist and COA guide.
